With technology you find something new everyday. Like today I was putting toghether some material for next weeks classes, when boom there it is something that will revolutionize digital storytelling. Free K-12 accounts on Animoto. It may not sound like much, but it is and I am about to tell you why.
I have been using Animoto for about a year now. When I used it in my classes before, we could only make 30 second videos. Well I needed to make a longer one so I put up the $30 for an account. Well I didn't use it as much as I thought I wanted to so I made it available to others. Downside of this....only one kid can be in it at a time. Until now. Now it is free to students with the ability to make full length videos.
To sign up for an account go to http://animoto.com/business/education/. Do not sign up for an account before hand otherwise you will need to use a different email address.
We will provide a link that contains your Classroom Code. Your students will receive All-Access upon successfully registering through that link.
Please make sure that they Register through that link (or else they just register without actually getting the All-Access Pass).
If you and your students don't register at our site using the Classroom Code's link, they will not get All-Access.
To ensure that your younger students are protected, we suggest that you come up with dummy e-mails for them that are under your control. This way you can monitor the activities that go on under their Animoto accounts.
Register an e-mail address at gmail.com. The "dummy" account trick does't work with most other e-mail domains.
Once you have that original e-mail address registered at Gmail.com, you can then register for your students who are under the age of 13 at site by entering the following e-mail addresses in the registration form (DISCLAIMER: Make sure you are registering your students using the Classroom Code Link provided for you. If you don't, then the students won't have All-Access).

All activity at our website under these accounts will be sent to your original, derivative e-mail (i.e. emailaddress@gmail.com). This way, you'll be able to give each student a unique Animoto account, while also being able to monitor their account's activity.

Many educators were allowing their students to use their own accounts for assignments, but only a few people could be signed in under them at a time. With "Animoto for Education," students can each have their own accounts. This makes both in-class and homework assignments easier to do.

This makes in-class presentations easier to do when an internet connection isn't available. Also, since each student will have their own account, they can share videos amongst each other more readily.
Absolutely not. All videos are completely private. The only way someone can watch a video is if they are directed to that video's specific URL, or if that video is posted to another website. Also, no one will be able to contact your students via Animoto.
